Some places are spoiled in a good way with constantly comfortable weather. And for other people the joy of sunny days is finally achieved! There’s so much to do outside! Hiking, swimming, grilling, etc. If you are already planning some outdoor activities, don’t forget about your dog! We have 5 cool game ideas that will delight your pup!
This might turn out to be your dog’s new favorite game! Although most dogs don’t know how to catch a flying disc at first. After getting over this strange object, your pup will instinctually want to grab it in his mouth. Begin with short, slow throws, and be very careful to avoid hitting your dog. Be patient!
Equipment needed: Frisbee (Look for the one made of flexible rubber and designed for dogs – West Paw Design Zogoflex Zisc)
Grab your dog’s favorite smelly treats, either alone or stuffed inside a treat-holding toy, put treats in a variety of hiding places around the backyard. Then invite your puppy and watch him sniff away.
Equipment needed: Your dog’s favorite treats
Now the real hunt begins! A very short and fun game! Which is basically just the owner throwing a duck toy and running to to get the duck from those little hunters! Lots and lots of jumping and prancing!
Equipment needed: Duck shaped squeaky fabric toy
To play basketball with your dog, just grab an empty laundry basket and your puppy’s favorite ball. Drop the ball into the basket while saying “drop”. This is the way to demonstrate what you would like your dog to do. It might take some time for your puppy to learn that the goal is to put the ball into the basket, so coax him with treats.
Equipment needed: A nice ball (We would suggest to check out a Jolly Ball – It comes in different sizes. Bounces and floats, handle makes for easy fetch and retrieve)
Ask your dog to sit-stay or down-stay. Find a hiding place. Remember to take your dog’s treats or toy with you so that you can reward her immediately when he finds you. When you’re in your hiding place, call your dog to come to you—just once. As soon as your dog finds you, throw a party!
Summer is a wonderful time to spend outdoors with your dog! Enjoy!
